The Rotary Club of Victoria-Harbourside provided a $3000 donation to 1000×5, and Executive Director Eileen Eby is delighted. “During COVID we have had to alter plans as you can imagine, these dollars have helped us immensely.” 1000×5 collects books or funds books through donations like this to bring children’s literacy into more homes. Every month they donate hundreds and hundreds of books for babies and toddlers. “The Rotary Club of Victoria-Harbourside and 1000×5 are creating real change for the children in the Capital Region.” Eileen adds “Children begin to develop literacy skills at the same time as language skills: in early infancy. Handling books, hearing stories, enjoying time with books is vital to the development of children’s literacy. Families need books in the home to provide their children with this opportunity.
